April 10,2013

Dear Covenant family,

Have you ever messed up ‘royally’?

I opened the door and heard little feet run away from me – as fast as they could. Having been in the parenting business for a few years, I knew something was up….. I followed the trail, and huddled up in a corner - hands covering a face in shame - I found my child. I did some ‘investigating’ and we resolved the situation. Apologies and hugs followed.

We all deal with shame and sin, since none of us are perfect. Yours may be sins of long ago, or recent imperfections you are facing. Chapter 12 of ‘the Story’ gives us an intimate look at the life of David when he messed up ‘royally’. Adultery, murder, lying, abuse of power – they were all there. Yet the Bible doesn’t end David’s life story there. David didn’t get disqualified. The Story of God and David continued in both difficulty and beauty: The conceived young child died, causing much harm, while out of this ‘adulterous’ relationship another son was later conceived who became heir to the throne.

How do we deal with sin in our life? Maybe it’s not about whether you fall, but how you get up. David fell ‘royally’, but also got up ‘royally’. How does that apply to you dealing with the imperfections in your life? I pray this Sunday will inspire you to take a fresh look at your ‘getting up’, since we know a God who majors in turning our ashes into Glory!

In preparation for this Sunday, please read Chapter 12 in ‘the Story’.
