Dear Covenant family,
‘For where two or
three are gathered together in My Name, there I am among them’
I thank God for what He did at our church wide prayer
weekend ‘Together’.
Friday Night was spent to prepare our hearts through
confession to hear Him speak as we discussed the sins of selfishness,
self-sufficiency and independence. We experienced a beautiful time of praying
for one another as we shared area’s of personal growth.
Saturday Morning was spent seeking God’s face about our
unique calling as a church. We asked ourselves the question: What is God’s
unique ‘fingerprint’ for us that sets us apart in our calling? After an
introduction to this concept, time was spent in individual prayer and quiet
with a specific list of questions. We then spend about 2 hours together, sharing
our responses on ‘sticky notes’ and talking about this unique characteristic.
Sunday the findings were introduced to the church, with the
sanctuary walls filled with these ‘sticky notes’. Copies that included a
categorized list of all these comments were distributed to everyone in the
service.
So what was the outcome? We believe we’re called to be a
place of:
- Grace: where people feel accepted, loved and have a sense of belonging
- Truth: the Word is proclaimed and sought out and disciples made
- Witness: Sharing the Gospel at home and abroad
- Dependency: Seeking a close dependency on Him in all we do
Summarized in the following statement; Shining His Light in
Grace and Truth.
Where do we go from here? The 2nd Friday of
October (Oct 11) from 6 to 8 p.m. will mark the start of a series of
monthly ‘Together’ meetings, in which we plan to implement this further by asking
ourselves questions like: How does our unique calling affect our preaching,
teaching, missions, worship, growth groups, etc…? Each meeting will start with
a meal, an introduction by the pastor, followed by prayer and discussion.
This Sunday’s message will be all about this theme as we see
how grace and truth transformed those Jesus met. Please read Chapter 24 in ‘the Story’
A start was made with a weekly Bible Study at the Homeless
Shelter in Bonne this past Tuesday from 2.30 –
4.00 p.m. with 8 present. We had a great time. Anyone interested in
joining Marco next week is welcome to do so. We hope to be doing this for 10
consecutive weeks as we go through the ‘Alpha Course’ .
