Mary said: My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant’ Luke 1:46 -48
Humility seems to be a trademark of Mary, the mother of Jesus.
Humility is one of the most beautiful and valuable things anyone can possess.
We admire and love people that have it, and typically dislike those that don’t.
Everybody tries to pretend they have lots of it, yet it seems to be missing
more and more in our society. In my books of economics that makes it highly valuable
and expensive – and not just among us: it is highly valued by God! He actually
promises to live near those that are humble, which reminds me of the words of
the angel to ‘humble’ Mary: ‘Greetings, you who are highly favored’. This Advent
Sunday, let’s find and enjoy the gift priceless humility that beats any present
under any tree!
