Dear church family,
Due to an iced over parking lot and wet secondary roads that are set to freeze overnight services are cancelled for tomorrow. This is always a hard call to make as we value everyone, our time together and your safety. I look forward to spend time in the Lord's presence together next week. I planned to preach on John 12 at the start of Lent, as John spends 6 chapters in the passion week, beginning with Chapter 12. So here is a good way to prepare your hearts for this season and next week: Read John 12:24-26 and ask yourself the question: (1) How do I obtain the promise of Christ for a full life and (2) what does that look like for me? If you want to dig deeper here is another question: Which of the three characters in Chapter 12 (Mary, Judas and the 'hosanna crowd') is an example of that attitude, and what description of their actions and character reflect what 'loosing your life to find it' means?
Since we are 'snowed in', here is a great movie to watch: 'The end of the spear'. It is the story of Jim Elliott, who lived by this verse, saying: 'he is no fool who gives what he cannot keep, to gain what he cannot loose'. He gave his life to reach an Amazon tribe, known for cannibalism. It has been made available in various languages with subtitles as his life - through death - bore much fruit, impacting many. Movie may not be suitable for kids under 10.
Can't wait to see you all soon again. Will miss you tomorrow. May God bless you
Prayer Update: Please pray for three of our families who are struggling with family members who are near the end of their life on earth
Bud's sister Jackie (63) - Bud is to leave tonight for Georgia, visiting her possibly for the last time, as they expect to end life support after he arrives
Byron's sister Kim (50) - sent home on hospice as medical options are exhausted. Not as seriously ill as Jackie, but are counting life expectancy in months
Bill & Ann's daughter Dawn (39) - diagnosed with stage 3 cancer; Bratbergs to visit her home and be with their grandsons, while she is in hospital in Chicago next weekend. Ann’s sister Patty also has cancer.
