August 30, 2012

Dear covenant family,

What then shall we say, brothers? When you come together, everyone has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. All of these must be done for the strengthening of the church.- 1 Cor 14:26

We look forward to hearing testimonies from Byron and Chrystal Huebschen, Steve Vollertsen and maybe one or two others this coming Sunday as well as some special music by Wanda Pruett. It is so exciting when God brings different people together in His Body, because we all are image bearers of Him. With each of us, we get a bigger picture of who He is. May God continue to bring us together so we can show His Glory!

Sunday School: Gary Pruett will teach Sunday School on the book of Philemon.

Small Group: Because of the holiday weekend, we will not have small group, but we plan to end our service with an optional pizza, pasta and salad lunch as a church family at Cici’s restaurant. Enjoy spending your lunch with your church family. Happy Holiday! Look forward to see you this Sunday!

Parking Lot expansion

Have you noticed how we’ve been running out of parking space lately? It is a nice problem to have! We want our visitors to feel welcome by providing adequate parking. The deacons have come up with a plan to expand our parking lot by moving some dirt and adding some gravel while at the same time addressing some of the (water) draining issues on our property. Bill Bratberg and Bud Masson will be available this Sunday and the next to take anyone on a tour after the church service to show you the plans and answer any questions you may have. We will take up a special offering on Sunday, September 16 to take this step of faith. Estimated cost: $1200. We’d ask you to pray and ask the Lord what you can give to help us reach out to more people. Anything received above the estimated amount will be used for our ongoing building needs.

Ministry Opportunities with Children’s Church and Nursery

Help young families and children feel welcome and ministered to at CBC by helping provide an excellent children’s ministry. Here is how you can help:

Nursery Workers – help take care of infants age 0-2

Children’s Church – assist any of the current workers during the main service. An assistant doesn’t have to prepare a lesson, but would simply be there to support the children worker by helping in any way necessary.

Sign up by contacting Kari van Raalten or Ann Bratberg

Prayer & Praise Requests Individuals:

That the word of God would spread rapidly, grow in power (Acts 19:20) and be honored (2 Thess 3:1)

From Lori Younker: A ‘people’ job for her daughter Mary.

Kathy Moses – wisdom further surgery; health

Pruetts – wisdom further surgery, health

Rebekah’s trip to Michigan to see family this weekend

Norm Smith – health

Mary Ann – recovery surgery/Manor residents

Dear covenant family, Because of a unique service last week, we are back to the 5th commandment this week. Gary Smalley, bestselling author on marriage and family describes it as one of the key ingredients of healthy relationships. The US Army uses it as a code to inspire hundreds of thousands to courageous, ethical and valiant behavior. It is attributed to Christ in Hebrews 2, and Paul mentions it as one of the key ingredients of the Christian Life. What is it? Honor! Come and find out this Sunday how giving and receiving honor can turn your life right side up as we continue our series on the Ten Commandments with the 5th Commandment: Honor your parents.
