Dear covenant family,

‘It was He who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God’s people for works of service’ Ephesians 4:11

Christmas is just around the corner. We may be creating or receiving wish lists. Did you know that YOU are God’s Gift to someone else? Being the church is like having Christmas every Sunday, as we receive God’s Gifts, given to us in each other. This Sunday we will look at the obstacles, obtainment and objective of being Gods Gift to others. Because: You are God’s Gift!

Training Seminar

Marco will be in Des Moines, IA for a seminar on expository preaching from Wednesday October 31 through Friday November 2. His email and cell phone will be checked on a regular basis during this time.

Men’s Seminar

Calling all men to join us this Saturday from 9 to 3 at CBC for “God’s Call to Manhood’. 15 men have signed up already! We are looking forward to a great day.

Memorial Giving this Christmas

This Christmas Season we would like to have poinsettias donated in honor of or in memory of loved ones. With the Christmas cantata being performed, we’d like to have poinsettias placed in front of the choir while singing. If you give $10 per honoree, our designated decorator will purchase the plants and place them in the sanctuary. We would ask that the money and names of honorees be given before the 1st Sunday in December.

Dear covenant family,

We look forward to have Al Frank, the regional assistant superintendent and church planter with the Evangelical Free Church, share this Sunday’s message. Al spends his time encouraging area churches and promoting church planting through the area. Al has been recently appointed to this role and looks forward to get to know our church better.

The van Raalten family won’t be attending Sunday, as we will be celebrating Kari’s parents’ 50th wedding anniversary in Wisconsin from Friday until Sunday. You will have a ‘Dutch accent free’ Sunday! For any emergencies, you may contact your elders during Marco’s absence.

Results ‘Together’

We had a wonderful time ‘together’ this past Saturday as we sought the Lord together. What was scheduled as a 5 minute ‘personal confession’ segment turned out to last several hours as we confessed sins and prayed for one another. When we finally got to ‘business’, we realized that being together at the feet of Jesus is by far the most valuable thing we could ever find ourselves doing as we look at the future and vision for our church. We then discussed church health in the following areas:

  1. the importance of small groups in member care and mission
  2. the need for us to discover and operate in our spiritual gifts
  3. communication throughout the week
  4. the need for part time secretarial help at the church office.

A leadership meeting has been set for Friday, November 16 to further discuss small group strategy for CBC. A big thank you to all of you who took the time to fast and pray during the week, and to open your hearts to the Lord and one another during our time on Saturday. It was amazing!

Dear Covenant family,

‘For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him – 2 Chronicles 16:9 - KJV

I look forward to spending Saturday with you as we seek God ‘together’. I encourage you to fast between now and Saturday, as a way to prepare your heart to listen to the Lord. I am praying and expecting that the Lord would meet us in a unique way that day. Can’t wait to be with you in His Presence -Together!

Sunday will be different: We are planning a family style service with a “pumpkin message”. And each child up to age 12 has the opportunity to decorate their own pumpkin during the service and take it home with them. Tables will be set up in the front for this activity, and we’d ask you to provide one adult per child during this time.  During Sunday School we will further discuss “Together”, as we enjoy some coffee cakes/desert. Please bring a coffee cake with you for that time. Because of Cantata practice that now takes place between 1:30 and 3:00 p.m., (earlier than last week) a light sandwich lunch will be prepared by those that stay, and both small groups will meet from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m.

Dear Covenant family,

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place”. – 2 Chronicles 7:14, 15

What could happen if God’s people came together united, seeking his face? As you know, we are just 10 days away from doing that as a church family. The promise in this verse is that God “will hear from heaven”. Wow! This Sunday we will prepare our hearts for that as we look at the life of the young prophet Samuel, who after some confusion about hearing God, simply said; “Speak Lord – your servant is listening”. This Sunday it’s about: “Hearing God’s Voice”.

 “Together”:

Saturday, October 20 from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. will be a church wide time of seeking God’s face together.

Small Group & Cantata

This Sunday, October 14th, both small groups will meet after church because of the Cantata practice.  Please bring a pot-luck lunch with you.  We will eat together, have small group and then you may join for the Cantata rehearsal. This first rehearsal will be an overview of the cantata, so if you are still not sure if the cantata is something for you, you can come, check it out to see if this is something you are interested in and then make your decision on participating afterwards.

God’s Call to Manhood

Saturday, November 3rd, Covenant Bible Church will be hosting “God’s Call to Manhood” which is a one day conference from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.  Various speakers have been invited to teach on topics from “Characteristics of a real man” to “Communication”.  There is a complete schedule of the day and a sign up list in the lobby on the information table.  Participation for CBC attendees is free.  If you feel moved to make a donation to “Bridge of Hope”, who is organizing this day, it will be appreciated.  Lunch will be provided free of charge.

Prayer & Praise Requests Individuals:

Randy Stringer – hernia surgery Thursday.

Ethan, Bill & Ann Bratberg’s grandson - due for his yearly cardiologist checkup. Pray for a favorable report and that Dawn, his mom, will have the peace of God during this trying time.

Jim & Erin Wyly – trip to reservation October 23rd – Nov. 3rd

* Please pray that God would prepare the way for conversations that would deepen        friendships.

 * Pray we would show the love of God.

 * Pray for God to show Himself strong and that His will would be accomplished.

Norm Smith – health

Mary Ann – recovery surgery

Dear covenant family,

Ex 20:16 –‘you shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not cover your neighbor’s wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor’

The Christmas Season is just around the corner. My boys have already decided what they want, and it is more than dad things that they need. Sounds familiar? There is always more to ‘get’, and enough is never enough. Politicians appeal to our desire for ‘more’ by promising us a better future. In the midst of our craving society stands the 10th and final commandment: thou shall not covet. Come and find out this Sunday that this doesn’t mean you rip your Christmas list to pieces, or reduce it to half. Instead, it’s all about how you compose your list.

“Together”:

We look forward to coming together as God’s people to seek him for the future direction of the church.  We will meet Saturday, October 20 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and our time will be spent discussing and praying over the three elements of our mission statement:  Know God, Grow Together and Show the World.  We will have times of worship, scripture, prayer and confession; seeking God individually and sharing together.  We encourage everybody to fast the three days prior to “Together”.  You may choose your own form of fasting (food, media, community,…).  The theme “Together,” comes out of the book of Acts when it describes God’s people seeking him together. (Acts 1:14)

Sunday, following our “Together” day, we’re looking at having breakfast together during our Sunday School time and a Family Style Service at 10.45.
